While in Muskegon, FGW & GLNMM hosted ~96 5th graders from New Era Elementary, ~60 choirboys of various ages from the Mainz Cathedral Choir in Germany, and ~60 4th & 5th graders from Moon Elementary in Muskegon. We had great weather, and the field trips went well for the most part. We've gotten high praise from most of the teachers and from the leaders of the choir.
We did have some problems with Moon. When I talked to the principal, I suggested a schedule of 9am to 3pm, and she agreed. She apparently did not communicate this to the teachers or the transportation dept. The students did not arrive until 9:30, and at lunchtime we found out that the students had to leave at 1:50pm. Moon is only 10 minutes away from GLNMM, but the buses had to take the middle schoolers home and so were not available later in the afternoon. Lesson learned: after making initial contact with the principal, it is better to deal with the teachers directly.
After spending Monday evening through Friday afternoon at GLNMM, FGW moved to Heritage Landing in Muskegon for public sails. The Friday evening sail had light winds, calm water, and ~9 passengers. I wasn't present for the rest of the weekend.
If you participated in the Muskegon trip, how do you think it went?
